2020: Hydroinformatics Development from Large Data Repositories

08/02/2024

Hydroinformatics development from large data repositories are focusing on deep data analysis, application of data science to support assessment, monitoring, and effective water and weather forecasting. Nowadays, flood and drought situations are becoming more critical every year due to climate change, rapid action is needed to create personal concern based on knowledge, research, collaboration, and capacity building on water resources that may enable the application of information on effective water resources management in both normal and crisis situations. In 2020 the following activities were carried out:

Procured and developed computer system to process algorithms Machine Learning and Deep Learning.

Provide hi-performance computers and use Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) processors and workstation computers for research and analyze hydroinformatics data in order to increase the efficiency of big data processing.

Data analysis to enhance the efficiency of water management systems

Prepare and analyze data on storms, dams, rainfall levels, disaster-risk areas, and flood-risk areas in a suitable format in order to analyze and demonstration in various formats such as maps, graphs, and diagrams for easy understanding.

Data analysis to develop data quality control methods

Software development for rainfall and water level data quality control detecting abnormal data from various formats and assessing suitable methods for developing programs to check data quality in both real-time and offline which for inspection and support the data quality from HII’s telemetry stations.

Image analysis to monitor rainfall amounts and flood-risk areas. It is program development that used to detect rainfall from radar’s image. In the 1st phase, the program has analyzed radar image by identify the color to monitor and warning heavy rainfall area in Thailand and then calculating the amount of rainfall expected in those areas. The program’s operation involves finding the reflection signal of radar waves as depicted in the picture.
