2020: Development of Flood Prediction and Warning Systems in Urban Areas

08/02/2024

Since 2012, HII has started developing project on flood prediction and warning system in the Chao Phraya River Basin and expanded the water management on flood prediction and warning systems to cover important river basins throughout the country in 2017. As a result of continuous development found that the system is suitable for large areas with uncomplicated data. However, if applied to a small-scale area with high complexity data, such as Bangkok, important economic area, tourist area, industrial zones, or etc., the system may not be able to be fully function.

Therefore, in 2019, HII has begun to develop flood prediction and warning system in enclosed area (Polder) of Bangkok, covers Bang Khen District and Chatuchak District. This project received academic support from Hydroinformatics Institute Pte. Ltd., or H2I in Singapore which expertise in developing flood management systems in urban and economic areas. later on, HII and H2I has collaborated to develop a flood prediction and warning system in the Bangkok area in 2020.

At present, HII has monitoring and warning system for flood-prone areas in Bangkok which able to deal with flood situations in a timely. HII also using Decision Support System (DSS) to enhance the efficiency of water management and problem solving.
