HII Participates in DDPM Meeting to Monitor, Assist, and Prepare for Flood Situations
20/09/2024
On September 6, 2024, the Hydro-Informatics Institute (HII) under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation (MHESRI), led by Mr. Watanachak Supaking, Director of the Technology & Hydro-Informatics Promotion Division, attended the Central Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Command (DDPM) meeting to monitor flood situations and provide support at the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) Conference Room 1. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Chaiwat Chuntirapong, Director-General of DDPM, and attended by provincial governors, relevant agency representatives, including over 12 agencies, as well as directors of regional disaster prevention and mitigation centers, and heads of provincial disaster prevention and mitigation offices who joined via electronic platform (Webex).
HII reported the need to closely monitor rainfall that will start forming today, especially in four provinces: Chiang Rai, Phayao, Nan, and the upper part of Phrae, due to high soil saturation and high water levels in rivers. Northern provinces, particularly Loei, Udon Thani, Nong Bua Lam Phu, Nong Khai, and Bueng Kan in the northeastern region, were also highlighted for potential water level increases in the Mekong River.
Following Tropical Storm “Yagi,” which has weakened into a low-pressure cell, continuous rainfall is expected in the northern and northeastern regions until September 12, 2024.
DDPM emphasized that local authorities should be prepared for potential flood situations and communicate alerts to the public through all available channels.
