HII Director transferred ‘KU TOWER’ to Kasetsart University
02/04/2020
On 24 June 2019, Dr. Sutat Weesakul, Director of Hydro – Informatics Institute (Public organization) together with Dr. Royol Chitradon, Chairman of HII and the initiator of the KU TOWER project, had transferred the “Near-surface Meteorological Measurement and Air Quality Research Station” or “KU TOWER”, a 117-meter-tall tower, to Dr. Chongrak Wachrinrat, Acting President of Kasetsart University. The tower will be used for research and development in the country’s future environmental knowledge.
This tower is the first research facility in Thailand to study the influence of atmospheric substances on near-surface meteorological elements in urban area that covers vertical layers of atmosphere as well. The results of such measurement are not used to report meteorological features on a daily basis, but are used to analyze the atmospheric characteristics that affect the movement of substances in the atmosphere.
From 1st December 2014, the project has studied Thailand’s near-surface meteorological element such as wind speed, wind direction, temperature and humidity at the altitude of 10, 30, 50, 75 and 110 meters above surface. Precipitation has been measured at the altitude of 10 meters above surface. Air pressure has been measured at the altitude of 10, 50 and 110 meters above surface. The air pollutant data e.g. sulfur dioxide, nitrogen, ozone, methane and carbon monoxide, are measured at the altitude of 30, 75 and 110 meters above the ground. This project also generated 20 graduates: 1 Ph.D. and 19 Master degree with 29 relevant research outcomes.
