The event was divided into three key activities:
May 14, 2024: Workshop on disaster preparedness led by the Disaster Relief Operations Team of Friends in Need (of “PA”) Volunteers Foundation, Thai Red Cross, and community disaster warning networks from Koh Khan Sub-district, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. Participants were trained in water rescue and participated in a study visit at the Baan Pak Suad Royal Initiative Community-Based Water Management Museum in Surat Thani Province to learn about agricultural water reserve systems, the “Three Forests, Four Benefits” or Agroforestry initiative, and community fund management.
May 15, 2024: Over 400 community members and youth from the disaster warning network, along with partner organizations, engaged in sustainable community activities to restore water resources. The group constructed five traditional check dams and dredged the Ton Sai Creek at Baan Pak Suad, Takun District, Surat Thani Province, to create a water reserve for Nong Kok pond.
May 16, 2024: Participants from the Friends in Need (of “PA”) community disaster warning network received training on FDA standards, summarized the disaster response drill results, and shared lessons learned from flooding incidents in the three southern border provinces. They also developed a joint five-year disaster management action plan.
