HII Participates in The WorldWater Final Review Meeting
19/09/2024
On January 23-24, 2024, Mr. Sathit Chantip and Mr. Theerapol Charoensuk represented the Hydro-Informatics Institute (HII) at The WorldWater Final Review Meeting held at ESRIN: ESA’s Centre for Earth Observation, Rome, Italy.
The WorldWater Surface Water Dynamics From Space project, funded by the European Space Agency (ESA), aims to develop tools and utilize remote sensing technology for systematic and accurate monitoring of surface water resources. The project supports Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Target 6.6, which focuses on protecting and restoring water-related ecosystems such as mountains, forests, wetlands, rivers, aquifers, and lakes. The project’s outcomes will help track Indicator 6.6.1: changes in the extent of water-related ecosystems over time, and it will be implemented in 10 pilot countries: Mexico, Colombia, Denmark, Niger, Gabon, Zambia, Tajikistan, Ghana, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Thailand.
HII representatives presented two topics: “An Overview of the WorldWater Portal of Thailand” and “Use of Satellite EO for Water Management in Thailand – Water Surface Elevation and Surface Water Extent.” They also engaged in discussions on utilizing tools to monitor surface water status changes developed by the project and explored future collaboration opportunities. This meeting facilitated the exchange of perspectives, best practices, and innovative ideas for utilizing Earth Observation data to support sustainable water resource development.
