HII Participates in the 9th National Engagement Thailand Conference
20/09/2024
From June 5-7, 2024, representatives from the Hydro-Informatics Institute (HII) including Mr. Chawin Kanyawararak, Assistant Researcher; Mr. Montree Pinkaeo, Community Water Management Analyst; and Ms. Warini Nanta, Project Management Officer, attended the 9th Engagement Thailand Annual Conference 2024 at Centara Riverside Hotel, Mueang District, Chiang Mai. The event was honored by a special keynote speech from Prof. Dr. Surakiart Sathirathai, Distinguished Member of Chiang Mai University Council, on the topic “University Engagement & Sustainable Development.”
The HII representatives presented the following academic papers:
- Social Innovation for Community Spatial Water Sustainability by Mr. Chawin Kanyawararak and Ms. Warini Nanta, which introduced spatial water management innovation using “Pathummatra or Small-Scale Water Monitoring System”. This technology enables communities to manage water based on information about water levels in small reservoirs, optimizing water storage during both normal and crisis periods. A pilot project was tested in Phrae Province.
- Using Transdisciplinary Approach to Develop Appropriate Technologies and Innovations for Community Water Management by Mr. Montree Pinkaeo, which presented case studies of suitable technologies and innovations for different local contexts. Examples included: 1) Overflow culverts in Ban Muang Klang Community, Chiang Mai; 2) Waterway roads in Khok Phluang Community, Buriram; and 3) Household grease traps in Saladin Community, Nakhon Pathom. These models, using a transdisciplinary approach, have enhanced water management efficiency and effectively addressed specific local issues.
Both innovations support community participation in sustainable water management, aligning with Sustainable Development Goal 6: Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.
