HII Participates in Community Water Management Seminar Adopting Nature-Based Solutions Framework in Thailand

On May 3, 2024, the Hydro-Informatics Institute (HII), led by Dr. Sutat Weesakul, HII Advisor; Dr. Royboon Rassamethes, Director of HII; Dr. Winai Chaowiwat, Researcher; and Mr. Anusak Thongprung, representative from the Royal Irrigation Department, participated in the “Community Water Management towards Nature-Based Solutions Framework in Thailand” workshop held at Wat Sookboontarikaram School, Bueng Cham Or Subdistrict, Nong Suea District, Pathum Thani Province.

The seminar aimed to provide an overview of HII’s involvement in the RECONECT project, which focuses on Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) to address environmental challenges. HII presented the Rangsit Community as a case study area.

During the seminar, HII representatives discussed the community study findings in comparison to international standards under the RECONECT project. The Royal Irrigation Department’s representative provided insights on water management criteria for both drought and flood seasons, and on disaster prevention and mitigation during critical situations such as floods, droughts, or water pollution. The seminar was attended by over 50 stakeholders, including government officials, community members, and private sector representatives, such as the Deputy District Chief of Nong Suea, village heads, water committee members, new theory farmers, school officials, and executives from Coca-Cola Thailand Ltd.
